Simon Ibbetson Investment Committee Member / Research Support
Simon Ibbetson is the Managing Director of 358 Australia Pty Ltd.  Simon's area of expertise include; Investment Consulting, Portfolio Construction, Asset Allocation, Manager Selection Sector head of Hedge Fund Research. Prior to joining 358 Australia Simon was MD of CPG Research & Advisory. Prior to CPG Simon was head of asset consulting for S&P in Asia Pacific where he advised on many multi manager portfolios for major institutions in Japan, Taiwan, India, Hong Kong and Singapore. This position arose from Standard & Poor's purchase of ASSIRT Research in February 2005. As the head of ASSIRT Research, Simon ran the ratings, data, and the consulting teams, and was instrumental in selling the business to S&P.

Simon has an extensive background in consulting, emerging market debt, business development, and strategy, with experience gained in Rothschild and the ANZ Bank, and as Head of Investment Consulting at AON.  At AON Simon dealt with over 40 clients most of which were medium to large superannuation funds. Simon also consulted to a number of Fund managers advising on asset allocation and portfolio construction for a range of products. These included Multi manager and multi asset class products.

During his career, Simon has developed a number of products for Australian fund managers, including a Global Bond Product for a leading fund manager. Prior to joining ASSIRT Research, Simon was a Director of JANA Consulting, heading up its implemented consulting platform. As a former Chairman of Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA Australia), Simon and the board of IMCA aimed to provide initial and ongoing professional training to the asset-consulting profession.  Simon is currently a member of the Australian executive of AIMA, the global industry body representing the Alternative managers.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours), a Post Graduate Certificate of Education, and is an AFMA Accredited.

David Beattie Investment Committee Member
David has almost 30 years’ experience in research and investment management and has been with the Grosvenor / Tranzact Financial Services Group since November 2000, when he joined as Chief Investment Officer.  In 2010, David was also appointed to the position of Joint CEO of the Group.

Prior to working at Grosvenor, David was Chief Investment Officer for Westpac Financial Services, where he had overall responsibility for the investment performance of $1.5billion of client funds.  During his 16 years at Westpac, David had a variety of senior roles, including three years as General Manager, Investments.

David has a Bachelor of Management Studies degree, with majors in Economics, Maths & Marketing.  He is an also an Associate Member of the Institute of Actuaries, the Institute of Financial Advisers and the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ.

Anthony Jones Investment Committee Member
Anthony Jones has in excess of 20 years in the Financial Services industry, including roles in the strategic advice and investment research areas at one of Australia’s largest financial instituations. He was also the Chief Investment Officer of Phi Capital Ltd, a boutique funds management group, that successfully operated a managed investment scheme until its profitable sale in 2008.

Anthony is a specialist in the development of strategic solutions to improve financial outcomes for clients, utilising his keen interest in investment research with a particular focus on financial history and cycle analysis.

David GreyInvestment Committee Chairman 
David is an executive director of Millinium Capital Managers Limited and Head of Legal to the Millinium group.  Mr. Grey has extensive legal, accounting and management roles, including with AWA Limited and Texas Instruments over 27 years. Mr. Grey has worked in private practice and for various corporations in financial services, including National Benefits Consulting, AM Corporation Limited, AMP Superannuation Limited, Perpetual Trustees Australia Limited and Australian Wealth Management Limited (which includes Bridges Financial Services Pty Limited (“AWM”)). 

He was formerly General Counsel/Company Secretary for a number of AWM subsidiaries and undertook AWM’s listing on the ASX in 2005, now a top 200 company. Mr. Grey has sat on compliance, investment and due diligence committees and been involved in various external industry committees and dealings with the ASIC, APRA, ASX and IFSA.


Mark Phillips Chief Investment Officer
Mark has a strong background in Funds Management and Investment Banking through his 23 years in the industry and is highly regarded in his field. He has a proven track record in senior management where as Group Manager of Asset Management and General Manager of Structured Finance and Lending of a former ASX 200 company he was managing just over $1.1 billion of funds across the group. Under his responsibility he managed all of the trusts and the company’s fixed interest and mortgage assets, as well as held responsibility for the full recoveries of all monies lent.

Previous to this role, Mark held various senior management positions with National Australia Financial Management, the funds management arm of the National Australia Bank. He was involved in and headed several M&A engagements and Capital Market transactions, in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.


Neill College Investment Manager
Neil has extensive expertise in securities with more than thirty years of using quantitative and qualitative methods to assess companies and industries, in both stockbroking and funds management. As a fund manager and analyst for Queensland Investment Corporation ("QIC") Neill has covered most sectors of the Australian share market.  He joined QIC in 1990 as its seventh employee, becoming Head of Research for Australian equities in 1992. In this role he introduced a rigorous stock selection process as well as quantitative portfolio management methods. In addition to managing a successful A-REIT Fund for QIC, he also managed an Australian equities fund of up to $11 billion, which outperformed the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 accumulation index over eight years and in seven out of eight years individually.

Neill brings to our team seventeen years of experience in investment decision-making, portfolio construction, performance measurement, transaction execution and research management for QIC in addition to his twelve years of experience in institutional stockbroking as a research analyst, including participation in equity capital markets and M&A.

In 2004 Neill was requested by the Board of QIC to take over the role of CEO of their Biocapital funds, where he successfully increased the number of investments from two in November 2004 to seventeen by March 2007, taking the $100m portfolio to a fully invested position.

Neill has extensive theoretical and practical knowledge in assessing and managing credit, investment, market and operational risks.
